Remmon local agent

The Remmon local agent extends Remmon's monitoring capabilities down to the computer/virtual machine level.  It enables Remmon to not only monitor your client-server applications performance from the client's perspective but also from the individual computer/VM that makes up your service delivery platform.

How it works

The Remmon local agent is a small lightweight application that runs as a service on your Windows servers and provides the Remmon service with an ability to gather performance and specification data from machines running the Remmon local agent.  Based on technology developed for use in our own high performance computing cluster, it's now been adapted for client-side use on servers, PCs and within the cloud. 

Features

The Remmon local agent comes with a default monitoring feature set which includes:

• computer information (server name; model; manufacturer);
• operating system (name; version; type; platform; install directory);
• memory (physical; virtual; free memory);
• processors (load; processor count; current clock speed; for each core: load per core);
• storage (for each drive: storage load; type; drive letter; drive type; file system type; total size; available space; available space to current user);
• network (for each network interface: name; bytes/sec sent; bytes/sec received.

Process and file monitoring

We can build custom variants of the Remmon local agent which can monitor specific processes or files and provide alerts when:

• resource usage of a process exceeds certain parameters;
• certain processes are becoming "stuck";
• file size too large or file is deleted.

Beyond monitoring

The Remmon local agent's machine information gathering capabilities go beyond just fault and performance monitoring.  The agent provides you with a way to audit and track the computer configurations.  Instantly know via the Remmon local agent dashboard how many servers you have and what their capabilities are.

Adaptable

Like all our products and services, the Remmon local agent can be adapted to a your particular monitoring needs on a case-by-case basis.  For example:

• the Remmon local agent can be extended to include any type of performance counter exposed by Windows;
• the Remmon local agent feature set can be reduced for security or performance related reasons.  We do this by compiling a specific, customised, optimised Remmon local agent just for your particular server's monitoring needs. The benefits are obvious: an even lighter weight monitoring profile for specific computers as well as a reduced security profile.

High performance applications

The Remmon local agent aims to use the least amount of system resources possible to achieve its monitoring goals.  To further reduce monitoring overhead, we can compile custom versions of the Remmon local agent that only monitor the particular parameter (and not others) that you are interested in.

Interoperable

The Remmon local agent's standard output format is XML allowing integration with any other monitoring, control room or dashboard solutions you may have.  JSON, .csv and other output formats are available is custom versions of the agent.
